SPC and Vinyl Flooring Store Design for Brands

If your brand sells through a SPC and vinyl flooring store, that space is where customers meet your product in person. It is used by homeowners, office and retail fit-out contractors, and builders looking for durable, water-resistant floors, and each of them needs something different from it.

This guide explains how we approach a SPC and vinyl flooring store: what it has to do, the formats it can take, how to plan the layout and displays, and how to repeat it across locations. Studio MINIM is an Ahmedabad studio, also working in Vadodara and Surat, that works only with brands and businesses, never with individual dealers.

What a SPC and vinyl flooring store has to do

A dealer or franchise store has to sell every day, often run by a partner rather than the brand. So the format must be simple to build, easy to keep up and clear enough that the brand reads the same in a metro flagship and a small-town store.

For a SPC and vinyl flooring store specifically, the space has three jobs:

  • Prove claims such as water resistance, scratch resistance and quiet underfoot with demonstrations rather than posters.

  • Show many wood, stone and concrete looks in a compact space, since SPC and vinyl ranges are wide.

  • Show click-lock installation, because quick, clean installation is one of the main reasons people choose these floors.

Everything else in the design, from the layout to the lighting, should serve those jobs. When a store tries to do everything at once, it usually ends up showing too much and explaining too little.

Why this category is different

Boards and flooring are often hidden or seen only as a finished surface, so the space has to show both the surface and what lies beneath it. Quality is a matter of trust, and much of the buying is influenced by carpenters, contractors and designers.

Ranges are wide, which makes organisation, such as sample books, racks and clear labelling, as important as any feature display.

Formats

Most brands need more than one version of a SPC and vinyl flooring store, because sites, budgets and partners vary. A typical family of formats looks like this:

Brand store. Laid floors, live demonstrations, a commercial range and the full catalogue.

Dealer store. Standard walk-on bays, plank racks and a demonstration station.

Shop-in-shop. A compact plank rack and a small laid area in a multi-brand store.

We decide which formats you need from your sales channels and the sites you actually have, not from a fixed template. Sizes and costs depend on your range and market, so we set them during the brief, not in advance.

Layout and zoning

A good layout lets a visitor understand the space in a few seconds and find what they came for without help. For a SPC and vinyl flooring store, we usually plan these zones:

  • Walk-on floor bays: Laid areas in the best-selling looks, with real underlay.

  • Water and scratch demonstration: A water tray with planks sitting in it and a scratch test panel.

  • Click-lock station: A table where customers join and separate planks themselves.

  • Commercial range: A separate area for office, retail and hospitality floors.

The order of zones matters as much as the zones themselves. We plan the route so the strongest product moment is seen first, comparison comes next, and the counter or meeting area sits where a decision naturally turns into an enquiry or an order.

Display, materials and lighting

Display systems are where a SPC and vinyl flooring store succeeds or fails day to day. These are the elements we design most carefully:

Walk-on bays. Laid floors with skirting and transitions, the way they will be finished on site.

Water tray. Planks left in water through the day to prove the claim.

Click-lock station. Loose planks for a hands-on demonstration.

Pull-out plank racks. Full-length planks so customers can see the pattern repeat.

SPC and vinyl often copy wood and stone, so the light should be bright and even enough to show that the print looks real. Water demonstrations need easy-clean, water-safe surfaces around them.

We prefer a calm background of walls, floors and joinery, so the product leads. Good colour rendering in the lighting matters in almost every category, because customers judge colour and finish by eye and then see them again at home or on site.

Mistakes we see often

These are the problems we look out for first when we review a SPC and vinyl flooring store:

  • Relying on small swatches when customers need to see a full sheet, plank or laid floor.

  • Ignoring carpenters and contractors, who often decide which brand is bought.

  • Leaving construction and quality invisible, so every brand looks the same.

  • Letting sample areas become cluttered and hard to keep tidy.

Rolling it out across dealers

Once a format works in one store, the next challenge is repeating it across many partners without the brand drifting. That needs a clear set of drawings, approved finishes, display modules and a planogram that local contractors can follow.

Compact dealer formats roll out widely because SPC stores need little structural work, just a laid area, racks and a demonstration station.

See Multi-Store Retail Rollout for how we turn a format into a manual and support it across many sites.

Taking it to exhibitions

Trade fairs and expos are often where dealers and architects first meet a brand. The stall should feel like the same brand they will find in the store, so the design language travels from one to the other.

Live demonstrations, such as planks in water, draw visitors in at expos.

See Exhibition Stall Design for how we plan, design and deliver stalls.

Questions to answer before you start

Before any drawing, we work through a few questions with your team, because the answers shape a SPC and vinyl flooring store more than any style decision:

  • Who are the main visitors: homeowners, office and retail fit-out contractors, and builders looking for durable, water-resistant floors?

  • Which products must always be on display, and which can live in samples, catalogues or screens?

  • How many locations will follow this one, and who will build and pay for them?

  • What should a visitor be able to do on their own, and where do they need a salesperson?

Our experience

We have designed 40+ dealership stores for Qutone and its brands, including Dimore Windows and Dimore Surfaces, and 10+ exhibition spaces for SPECTA, Dimore and Qutone, including the SPECTA Tiles stall at Design Democracy Hyderabad.

We have not yet designed a SPC and vinyl flooring store. We bring our dealership, showroom and exhibition experience to it: how to repeat a format across many partners, how to make products easy to compare, and how to give a brand one recognisable look in every city.

We only share real projects. We do not publish figures, sizes or costs we cannot stand behind, and we set those with you during the brief.

How we work

  • Brief and site visit: We understand your brand, range, customers and partner network, and visit the site or a typical store.

  • Concept: We propose the layout, zoning and design language, with key views and materials.

  • Design development: We detail displays, joinery, lighting, signage and finishes.

  • Drawings and documentation: Working drawings, and for rollouts a manual partners and contractors can follow.

  • Execution support: Site visits and reviews with your contractors and vendors until the space opens.

Frequently asked questions

How do we prove water resistance in the store?

With a simple water tray where planks sit in water through the day, next to the laid floor.

Should customers try the click-lock system?

Yes. Joining two planks themselves shows how quick and clean installation is.

Should home and commercial ranges be shown together?

In separate zones, because buyers, specifications and questions are different.

Have you designed vinyl flooring stores?

We have not designed an SPC or vinyl flooring store yet. We bring our dealership experience from 40+ stores for Qutone and its brands.
